TalbragArt Competiton and Exhibition

Artists have been asked to submit entries, responding to the theme "Anniversary". It's a great chance for artists to show their talent and maybe even take home one of the wonderful prizes on offer, (courtesy of Talbragar St businesses). Entries have now closed.

The exhibition will commence on Thursday 12th October, with a walking tour leaving the Church Street Rotunda at 6pm (from the Pianos on the Pavement event).

For people's choice award, vote here, until midday on Friday 20th October. Winners will be announced at the Music + Markets event on Saturday 21st October, with artworks on display in Talbragar Street until Sunday 22nd.

Sydney Peace Prize recipient 2015 Australian artist, filmmaker and war artist/ photographer - George Gittoes will present with legendary singer and performer Hellen Rose, the only woman to travel into war with him.

Gittoes has been referred to in his recent book as a Blood Mystic, bringing calm to people in peril. 

Blood Mystic in Dubbo will be the first regional performance straight from its official Premier in Sydney's original Yellow House, Potts Point Show.  Yellow House Sydney '71- Yellow House Jalalabad '17.

The premier event of the Festival program.  Music + Markets will have you listening to some of the region's best artists on the main stage, whilst wandering Victoria Park amongst the market stalls of gourmet foods, beautiful handmade jewellery or children's clothing.

Featuring Phil Stack (founding member of Thirsty Merc) and House of Orange, One Proud Monkey, Heidi Maree and Mannequin.

  • Food Galore with something for everyone (gourmet pizzas, devilish desserts, loaded fries, fresh salads and of course a few old favourites such as twisted chips).
  • Kids have their own area 'DREAMland' with lots of kids activities, entertainment and they might just learn something (but don't tell them!)
  • Bar area for over 18yrs; a good spot to relax and meet up with friends
  • Bring a picnic blanket and make an afternoon and evening of it

The Music + Markets event is partnering with the 'Light the Night' fundraising event by the Leukaemia Foundation to bring together Australia's blood cancer community.  Be a part of the event by visiting their stall and buy a lantern.  

An incredible amount of activities, entertainment and market stalls - a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon and evening.

The highlight of the Music + Markets event is the Lantern Parade. After the sun sets, a massed display of magical lantern sculptures will light up the night (includes hundreds of lanterns made by school children in the region, plus the iconic rhino, lions, goanna and many more).

But don't leave, because after the Lantern Parade, the spectacular Lights + Lasers will delight everyone - from the littlest of people to the seasoned attendee.

The spectacular light + laser show will delight everyone from the littlest of people to the seasoned attendee.

Its an “immersive environment display” that uses twelve 3 metre high vertical truss structures to create a circle area, on top of each truss is a lighting and laser fixture and the truss itself has a light in it also that illuminates the truss. From this the audience can see the continuous effects throughout the night and then a second effect that will be a 5 minute show running to music.

A Visual Arts Study Day, Western Region

Supported by Visual Arts and Design Educators Association, Western Plains Cultural Centre, NSW Education and Communities, Charles Sturt University, Dubbo RSL Club, The Arts Unit, Eckersley's Art and Craft, and S&S Creativity Unlimited.

Focus Group: Year 10 and 11 Visual Arts, Visual Design and Photography Students and Teachers' understanding of artists practice.

The event is aimed to enrich student's understanding of diversity in art practices. Artists keynotes and workshops will inspire and motivate students entering Stage 6 Art studies in the validity and expression of a range of artistic practices and pathways available to them.

This study day incorporates four keynote addresses by: Wendy Sharpe, Dr Andrew Frost, Frances Barrett, and George Gittoes/Hellen Rose; as well as past HSC students. The 2017 Artist of the Year is Libby Gleeson, internationally renowned author of over 40 popular, highly acclaimed books for children and teenagers. Libby spent the formative years of her life in Dubbo, completing her schooling at Dubbo High School. She was school captain and dux in 1968.

Meet Libby and hear about her journey from Dubbo school girl to successful author; and help her celebrate this award.

Stroll the streets of Paris, feel the rhythm of the Spanish dance, be hypnotised by the mystic charm of India and transported to the dance halls of Buenos Aires in this passionate concert for flute and guitar, featuring music by Piazzolla, Ravi Shankar, De Falla, Bizet and more. Acclaimed for her onstage warmth and brilliance, flautist Jane Rutter was recently awarded the Chevalière des Arts et Lettres by the French Government for her impressive international achievements as a performer, recording artist and all-round ambassador for the flute. Guitarist Giuseppe Zangari performs extensively as a soloist and chamber musician at festivals and concerts throughout Australia, and lectures in classical guitar at the Sydney Conservatorium. Together they entrance in a program of French-Hispanic pieces, flamenco-inspired habaneras, South American tangos and an Indian raga!

A gathering of local and visiting Big Bands and not so Big Bands playing Jazz in all its glory. The patrons of the event are John Morrison and Jacki Cooper, internationally renowned Australian Jazz artists and educator. John and Jacki will be conducting workshops and directing and Mighty Big Band for Riot. 

This event features the Chalkies and the Tin Roof Big Band. The evening will finish up with an open jam session. All welcome.
